One evening as we watched television in the living room after dinner, there was a loud bang that came from the kitchen that sounded very ominous. The external pane of the double-paned large 115" x 55" picture window overlooking the golf course had cracked into a web of shattered glass. It somehow remained intact and didn't shatter the interior pane, although the entire unit was left compromised. We first suspected an errand golf ball, a stone strewn from a landscaper's trimmer, or perhaps a bird flying into the window, but none of those possibilities seem feasible in the dark of the evening. It may have been just an aging installation succumbing to the wind. After contacting several local (and a national) window companies, we were left with diversely inconsitent quotes and a range of incompetent proposals from most that would have required stucco work and interior repair around the frame. To say that we had zero confidence in what we were being sold is an understatement. It's as if the local contractors were vying for an ineptitude award. Fortunately, there is one local company that stands well above the competition. California Window and Door is family owned, licensed and bonded, and operating with an inviting showroom to demonstrate options. Anthony and his salesperson, Mike, clearly explained their recommendations, choice of glass manufacturers with different warranties, had the most reasonable pricing, and the most efficient installation plans (not requiring remodeling) done by in-house well-trained, longtime employees. After the custom-sized window was ready, Anthony arrived at our home with installers Jaime and John and completed the replacement and the barely necessary cleanup within two hours. They are the epitome of professional. California Window and Door is the only window and door to consider in the Coachella Valley. Period.

We had a very good experience with California Window and Door. Our project included many different windows of various sizes and a large slider. We wanted to shorten one of the windows, which required framing and stucco work. California Window and Door had a crew that handled everything for us, while the other window companies would have required us to hire contractors to do the framing and stucco work. California Window and Door also had folks that could do the city permitting for a reasonable fee, which we used. They also provided us information on federal energy rebates. California Window and Door provided us with various options at various costs. We chose to pay a little more for the Milgard windows, which come with a lifetime breakage warranty, perfect for a home on a golf course. The work was completed quickly and the crew cleaned up nicely afterwards. We love our new windows. Our home stays much cooler on warmer days and our heat no longer comes on in the mornings.

How it works

From free estimate to finished install

What happens, who you'll see, and what we take care of. We're with you every step of the way.

  1. Free

    In-home estimate

Call, book online, or stop by the showroom. When you're ready, someone from our sales team comes out to measure and walk you through styles and manufacturers.

  2. By email

    Your formal quote

Your quote arrives by email, built on what you picked at the visit. Accept it, ask for changes, or decline.

  3. Signed online

    Contract and final measure

If you decide to go ahead, you sign the contract online through DocuSign. Our foreman then comes out for the final measurements we order from.

  4. While it's being made

    Order, permits and HOA

We order your materials. While they're on the way, we start any permit or HOA approval your job needs, so everything is lined up for install.

  5. Most retrofits: 1 to 2 days

    Install day

Once your materials arrive and we've checked them, we call to set an install date that works for you. On the day we cover the work areas inside, take out the old windows, fit the new ones, and haul away the debris.

  6. Then it's yours

    Final steps

If your job has a permit, we book the city's final inspection and hand you the paperwork. Then your new windows and doors are all yours to enjoy.

Included with every job

Where a permit is needed, the city sets the fee once it sees the scope, so it sits outside the quote.

Questions

Three questions we get a lot

How far out do you go?

The whole Coachella Valley, Palm Springs to Coachella. High Desert and the mountain communities we take case by case, so call and ask.

Do I have to deal with Title 24?

No, we handle it. Vinyl usually meets the code on its own, and aluminum needs a consultant to model the house, which we arrange and fold into the quote.

Can you break the quote down by item?

No, you get one price for the whole job. Get more than one bid and compare them on who pulls the permit and what the labor warranty covers.

Anything else, visit the showroom or call (760) 773-1053.
