A front door in the Coachella Valley does a harder job than a front door almost anywhere else. Getting the material right matters more here than getting the style right.
A door taking direct afternoon sun in this valley can see surface temperatures well above the air temperature, day after day, for months. Wood moves. Finishes chalk and peel. Dark colours fade unevenly, and the side you see from the street is the side that goes first.
It is the single most common reason people replace an entry door here, and it is entirely predictable from which way the door faces.
Which door survives full sun →Every one of these is the right answer for somebody. What follows is what each is genuinely good at, and what it will cost you.

What we fit most, and why
It does not warp, rot, split or drink water, and it holds a finish through summers that strip wood back. Modern grain textures take a stain convincingly, so from the kerb most people cannot tell. For a west or south elevation it is the sensible default and we say so often.

Scale, security, and airflow
Suits the Mediterranean and contemporary architecture this valley is full of, and carries a scale other materials cannot. The operable glass panels are the underrated part: you can open the door to the breeze at six in the evening and still have a locked barrier.

Beautiful, and conditional
Nothing else has the weight or the warmth, and a good wood door is still the most impressive thing you can hang in an opening. In a deep, genuinely shaded entry, or on a north or east elevation, it will be fine and it will be lovely.

The architectural statement
Hung on a pivot hinge rather than side hinges, so a door can be far wider and taller than a conventional one and still swing with a fingertip. On the right contemporary house it is the detail people remember.
We are not a single-brand dealer, so the recommendation depends on the opening, the exposure and the look you are after. Several of the lines we fit for windows and patio doors make entry doors too.
Fiberglass and steel entry systems with genuinely convincing grain, built to order rather than pulled from stock sizes.
ProVia →The workhorse fiberglass line. Wide range of panel styles and glass, and the value end of doing this properly.
Therma-Tru →Wood and clad, and the line we most often reach for on a pivot entry where the slab needs to be oversized.
AG Millworks →Slim thermally broken aluminium entries and pivots, matching the same system as their windows and patio doors.
ES Windows →Aluminium clad wood entries. Real timber inside, weather-resistant metal facing the sun.
Sierra Pacific →Iron and specialty entry doors when the opening calls for scale and the architecture calls for metal.
ABS Doors →Architectural glass entries and pivot systems for contemporary homes where the door is mostly glass.
PRL Glass →European aluminium, including the 125 series oversized pivot, on contemporary desert architecture.
Luminara →The door slab is only part of it. Most of what makes an entry feel considered is what surrounds it.
A single entry door is the smallest thing we do and a perfectly ordinary reason to call. It is usually one day on site, it still gets permitted and inspected like any other job, and you get the same crew that does the twenty-opening houses.
You do not need a whole-house project to be worth our time.
Nothing here requires booking an appointment.
Family owned in Palm Desert since 1986. Milgard Platinum Dealer, CSLB 906636, and our own crews install your entry doors from Palm Springs to Indio. We pull more window and door permits than any other company in the valley.
