How our price match works

  • How our price match works

You'll live with your new windows and doors every day for years, and we want you proud of them and happy with what you paid. Getting more than one bid makes good sense. If another licensed California contractor gives you a lower written quote for the same job, share it with your salesperson and ask about a price match.

Do you price match?

Yes, on the same job, and we'd like to see your other quotes. California Window & Door in Palm Desert matches a lower written quote from a licensed California contractor for the same job, shown to us before you sign with us. Their quote has to be for the same windows or doors and options, ones we can order, installed the same way. It also needs the same included work, and an installation warranty at least as long as ours. We compare totals without permit fees, and installed quotes from national home improvement store chains aren't part of the match.

That goes for one window, a single entry door or a patio slider as much as a whole house or an HOA project across your community. It covers every brand we sell and all three ways we install: retrofit over your old frame, full frame with the old frame taken out, and stucco popouts.

Why do you price match?

We want you to be glad you chose us every time you open a window or door. Your windows and doors are installed by our own crews, and we're with you every step of the way, from the free estimate to the final cleanup. We've been installing windows and doors in the valley since 1986, from a single window to a whole home, and for whole communities too.

We'd like the price to feel just as good as the work. If it's the only thing in the way, we'd like the chance to earn your job at the matched price.

Have other quotes? Share them.

Your salesperson is the one to ask, at your free estimate or once your quote from us arrives. They'll go through each quote with you so you can see what it covers, and you get our answer in writing.

Take your time. You can share a quote any time before you sign your contract with us, and once you sign, the contract price is set. The other quote has to be no more than 30 days old, and still open, on the day we first get a copy.

What counts as the same job?

Your salesperson will lay the two quotes side by side with you. It's the same job when the other quote has:

  • The same product. The same manufacturer and the same product line or series, and one we can order. A brand name on its own isn't enough, because one manufacturer often builds several lines.
  • The same openings. The same number of windows or doors, in the same sizes and styles, with the same panel layout on a patio door. A window built to your exact opening and a stock size with filler strips are different products.
  • The same glass and options. The same glass package (coatings, number of panes, tempered or obscure glass), frame color inside and out, grids, hardware finish and screens.
  • The same installation. The same method, and the same finish work, such as stucco patch and texture, paint and interior trim.
  • The same included work. The final measure, any permit and HOA approval your job needs, Title 24 paperwork, covering your work areas, and hauling away the old units.
  • The same warranties. Our installation comes with a one-year warranty, so theirs needs a written installation warranty of at least one year. It also needs the same manufacturer warranty, including any paid upgrade.

The other quote doesn't need line-by-line prices. Ours is one price for the whole job, too. It needs to show the total and what that total covers.

If the other quote uses an install method or a product line we also offer, ask your salesperson to quote your job the same way. If your openings allow it, we will. If they don't, we'll tell you why in writing. If their quote includes a product we can't order, even for one opening, it isn't part of the match. We'd still be glad to quote you something close at our own price.

Who can the other quote come from?

Another dealer or contractor can qualify if they hold an active California license that covers window and door work, usually C-17 Glazing or B General Building. State law requires a contractor's license number on a written proposal, so it should already be on your quote. We look it up on the Contractors State License Board website, the same place you can check ours, #906636. If we can't find an active license for that number, we'll tell you so.

The match is for installed work, so a price for materials only, an online price or a store price isn't part of it. Installed quotes from national home improvement store chains aren't part of the price match either.

What does the other quote need to show?

  • It's made out to you, for your home, in writing on the contractor's own quote form, letterhead or email.
  • It's dated within the last 30 days, and you can still accept it. We go by the day we first get a copy. A quote with no stated expiration date is presumed open, but we may ask you to confirm it is still valid.
  • It shows a total price for the job and what that price covers.

How do you compare the two?

We compare total against total, for the whole job.

  • We compare totals without permit fees. If your job needs a permit, the city sets the fee once it sees the scope, so it sits outside our quote. If the other quote includes a permit fee, we take it out before we compare. If their total includes one but doesn't show the amount, we deduct the amount in that city's published permit fee schedule for that scope of work. We show you in writing how we got it.
  • Rebates and gift cards stay out. Manufacturer rebates, utility rebates, gift cards and tax credits come from someone else, so they don't change either contractor's price. Any you qualify for on our job stay yours.
  • We compare prices before any financing. Financing offers and promotional rates aren't part of the comparison.
  • One price, no stacking. You get whichever is lower: our price with any discount you already have, or the matched price.

What isn't part of the match?

  • Verbal prices, ballpark figures, and quotes that don't say what's included
  • Quotes from anyone without an active California contractor license
  • Installed quotes from national home improvement store chains
  • Materials-only, online or store prices
  • Products we can't order, and clearance, discontinued or display products
  • Prices that depend on buying something else, friends-and-family or employee pricing, and going-out-of-business or liquidation pricing
  • Commercial buildings, apartment buildings and other business projects. Homes, condos and HOA community projects are all covered.

How do I share another quote?

Hand it to your salesperson at your free in-home estimate, or email it to them. You can also drop it at the showroom, 75100 Saint Charles Place in Palm Desert, and we'll pass it to your salesperson. A photo or a PDF is fine. You may cover your personal phone number and signature, but the quoting contractor's name, license number and contact information must stay visible.

We use it only to check the match, and we don't share it. We keep a short note of the contractor's license number, the quote date and the total. We may decline a match if we have a reasonable basis to believe the quote isn't a genuine, good-faith offer, and we'll tell you why.

How soon will I hear back?

You get our answer in writing within two business days of the day we get a copy, though a late answer doesn't mean a match is approved. If our own quote isn't ready yet, the answer comes with it. If we can match, your salesperson sends you a quote at the matched price. If we can't, we tell you exactly why.

What about my contract?

The matched price becomes the contract price in your written contract, and nothing else about your job changes. If the scope of the job changes later, the changes are priced at our standard rates. Your down payment is never more than 10% of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less. If you're 65 or older, you have five business days to cancel after you sign, and a price match doesn't change that. It's written into your contract.

Anything else?

  • One price match per job. If you share more than one quote, we match the qualifying one with the smallest total.
  • We decide every match in good faith, using the rules on this page, and we always tell you why. Every quote is checked the same way, so you get the same answer your neighbor would.
  • We may change or end the price match for future quotes. A match we've confirmed in writing stays in place, unless we later find the other quote was fraudulent, materially misrepresented, or from a contractor whose license wasn't active when they wrote it.
