Work it out yourself, or hand it to us

Plenty of what goes wrong with a window or a door out here has a simple answer, and you are welcome to the same information we use. Start with what the problem usually turns out to be. If you would rather we dealt with it, the form above is all we need.

What it usually turns out to be

Cloudy or foggy glass

The seal between the two panes has failed and the desert heat gets the blame for most of it. The glass itself can usually be replaced without touching the frame, so this is a smaller job than it looks.

A slider that has gone heavy

Nine times in ten it is grit packed into the track. Vacuum it out, then run a dry cloth along the track. If it still drags after that, the rollers are worn, and rollers are a replaceable part on most doors we fit.

Water or damp on the inside of the glass

Condensation on the room side of the glass is humidity in the house meeting cold glass. It is not a failed window. Moisture trapped between the panes, where you cannot wipe it off, is a different thing and that one is worth reporting.

A door that will not latch like it used to

Doors move with the seasons. Usually the strike plate or a hinge needs a small adjustment and the door itself is fine.

A torn screen or a bent screen frame

Rescreening is a small job and we can usually take the frame too if it has been knocked out of square.

Windows

Milgard

Separate documents for replacement and new construction windows, so check which one you have.

Crystal Windows

Crystal asks for claims within 30 days of finding the problem, so do not sit on it.

ES Windows

Their terms sit inside the FAQ page. Coverage depends on registering within 90 days of delivery.

Sierra Pacific

Warranties are sorted by the date your windows were made, not the date they went in.

International Window

Coverage stays with the original owner and does not pass to whoever buys the house next.

Luminara

Their warranty document is not posted on the site at the moment. Support can get you the right paperwork.

Doors and glass

AG Millworks

Ten years on clad, five on Accoya, one on all-wood. The plain language version is in their FAQ.

ProVia

Warranty cards by product, plus a page for registering a door or transferring it to a new owner.

Therma-Tru

Warranty documents by product. If that link gives you trouble, call us and we will pull the right one for you.

PRL Glass Systems

Mostly architectural glazing. Their entry door coverage runs two years and applies to dealer supply.

Door hardware

Emtek

Lifetime on the lock itself for the original owner. Finish coverage varies quite a bit by finish.

Schlage

Their page lists a separate document per line, so pick the one that matches your lock.

Yale

Electronics are covered for two years. Call them for a return number before you ship anything back.

When it is past fixing

Some of it is not worth repairing, and we would rather say so. An older aluminium slider with a failed seal and worn rollers is usually a candidate for replacing, and you get a better window out of it. We can look at one opening or the whole house, and there is no charge for coming out to measure and price it.

A couple of things that save you a phone call

Several of these manufacturers will not take a claim from a homeowner at all. It has to come through the dealer, and for anything we installed, that is us. If a brand above only gives you a phone number, call our office and we will handle it from our end.

Not sure which brand you have? On a window, the name is usually etched into a corner of the glass. On a door, check the edge for a sticker. If you cannot find it, send a photo with your request and we will work it out.
